National Transfer Student Week 2022

Client:
HERE Center

Role:
Creative Strategist, Web Designer

Programs:
Illustrator, Adobe XD

Description:
The HERE Center is an on-campus organization that helps focus on improving research in health equity to reduce health disparities. However, they’re also affiliated with Transfer Student Alliance, the Badge Project, Build Poder, and the office of Student Success. In collaboration with these organizations and programs, they annually host a transfer student event to help their transtition to the California State University, Northridge Campus. They host a variety of events for a week and provide a safe space to ensure they can comfortably network.

Process:
The goal of this project was to demonstrate community, resources, and opportunity on the CSUN campus for transfer students. The flyers, website, and all marketing materials needed an identity that associated the event with the campus while maintaining its uniqueness. I chose two sets of fonts that would be eye-catching and legible from a distance. Another challenge for this event was that it was being hosted both in person and online. Through trial and error, I had to create icons that would truly demonstrate where each event was taking place. The final challenge was adjusting the text, illustrations, and images so that it wasn’t overwhelming for the audience.

Outcomes:
There was a large amount of students that attended all the events. At least half of the students admitted to have seen the National Transfer Week 2022 flyer through social media. Compared to last year, there was an increase of more than 50% of students that signed up to learn more about the program.

Initial Concepts

These two concepts were inspired by an illustrative, academic, and intriguing theme. I wanted to demonstrate diversity in a simplified manner while maintaining the overall purpose: Welcoming transfer students.
