Cultivating local and indigenous knowledge website

This is a project that was created to research ecological factors that affect health and well-being. There was a common interest between all CSU campuses. They all connected and decided to create the CSU LEK initiative. This program promotes conversations through workshops and speakers, networking through social events. and brainstorming through listservs..

Site map: This was an existing project with a small amount of information, so I created a page with sections and subsections to organize the information in an effective manner. This is ongoing project and is constantly getting updates and information. Through biweekly meetings, we gather information to adjust the website.

Wireframe: Based on the sitemap, I was able to build the website. I wanted it to emphasize the the major events that were going to happen throughout the semester, so I placed that information right after the project’s introduction.

The next section contains all of the CSU events that occur throughout the semester. The LIK project is linked to multiple campuses and wanted those events to be placed on this page as well. I created a google form so that CSU’s could have the opportunity to place their upcoming events on this page as well. Through approval, I”d create the page and place it as a node under CSU events’ section.

Though there are many resources for this project, the client wanted to categorize them so that it was organized and accessible. Therefore, the card layout seemed to be a cleaner and visible format for this section.

The Connection and Contact Us section was a tentative idea that was still being discussed with the LIK team, therefore this was left at a minimum.

Final Website: Through various meetings and lots of feedback, we were able to finalize the layout of the website.

The website’s content was updated with a more accurate description of the upcoming events that were happening in the Spring Semester 2023. The major update was the Listserv section that was replaced by the Connections section.

Conclusion: There are a lot of ways to play around with a website’s layout but there are also a lot of limitations on Web-One that prohibited us from being more creative. The main obstacle I had was figuring out a way to allow an external party to add their events onto this website in an automated form. Though this was not possible, we opted on creating a Google form to receive this information. Another obstacle I encountered was created an automated news/events section as it was under another “group”, therefore, I manually placed these events into the section. There is a lot of content that is still pending such as the “Connection” section, so this page will always be changing as time progresses.
